Dear Gackt,
Congratulations on your latest single Ghost. It is a most interesting vision of breathing machines. To breathe is 'respire', to expire is to die or to breathe out. And to inspire is to breathe in another's spirit.
Respire, expire, inspire. All three words speak to me of life and spirit, and yet machines to not have breath to speak with, no spirit to tell us of. Excepting when humans give them a voice, like in Ghost. I can think of no better voice than yours.
Long ago, it was believed that inspiration came from other people's breath, that their spirit and ideas were transferred through the air. It will be an interesting day when machines breathe.
-Adieu, we will never meet.
I have wondered what an A.I. would first ask, once given a voice to speak with. Given our past record on interaction, I think humans will only truly recognise that the 'ghost in the machine' is 'alive' once it can tell us, in it's own voice, how it feels and thinks. Until then, machines with AI will be considered slaves to our will, lesser and not worthy of rights, much like animals are now, though that's a different ethical topic, and I will speak on it later.
